What’s Important

This weekend my family made the decision to purchase a used van.  We are thinking of doing some traveling and our current vehicles are not a good option for road trips.  So, we looked at the options available to us and decided that it was the right time to take a small car loan out and went to the city to look at a conversion van.  It has all the bells and whistles, low miles, and fits our entire family with ample room.  My kids were extremely excited by the Captain’s chairs and the dual screens.  My wife and I were much more impressed that we could barely hear them while driving.  We bought the van and handed the keys to the car that brought us to town to our oldest son.  He and my middle son were going to drive home for us while we stayed in town and did some shopping.  I no more than pulled up and started to fill my new tank with fuel when I receive a phone call that my sons had been in a serious accident on the freeway.  We hurried to the site to find a seven car accident.  My sons were okay, and the last car in the crash.  I’m not sure exactly what happened but the car in front of my sons tried to swerve away from the crash in front of them and went right into my sons car.  They were both shaken up and had both taken air bags and dash boards to the face, but they were alright.

The simple truth is that though we now have more stress in our life, everyone is okay and we will figure it all out.  It made me think about what is important in life.  My boys are definitely more important than a car, and knowing that they are safe makes me feel that maybe my problems aren’t such a big deal.
